Welcome to my website, and welcome BACK to those of you who have been
here before. I appreciate all the email I've received from many of
you about the airing of The 10th Kingdom on NBC this month. I'm
glad you enjoyed it so much. It was fun to watch all the work we
did all over Europe last year come together so well, with so much
panache and energy. And who knew Trolls loved disco, eh?
Okay, so, presently I'm in rehearsals for the play "The
Philadelphia Story" in Los Angeles. For those of you who
aren't already familiar with this delicious piece of drama (and that
should exclude most Remember WENN fans!), it's one of our great classic
American romantic comedies, written for the stage by Philip Barry in
1939. Katherine Hepburn played the lead role, in fact Barry wrote
the part of Tracy Lord with her in mind; Joseph Cotton starred opposite
her. Now, at the time, the ever clever Ms. Hepburn was dating a
quirky soul named Howard Hughes. And after the rave reviews she
received for the Broadway production, the thrifty Mr. Hughes bought the
screen rights to the play for her (an added bonus of dating a
billionaire) and shipped her back out to Hollywood, where he was setting
up a little venture of his own, and had it made into a film as a vehicle
for her, at the time, stop-start career. Well, Joseph Cotton, in
the role of C.K. Dexter Haven got bumped; and after a little re-writing
to flesh out the character, in stepped a suave fellow by the name of
Cary Grant (Archie Leach to his friends). Not bad. Add to
the mix the undeniable talents of one James Stewart, in the role of
Macaulay (Mike, to his friends) Connor, and you've got one hell
of a cast. Well, the rest is history, as they say. Stewart
picked up one of those little Oscar fellas (that seemed to have gone
missing lately) for his efforts. And the film remains one of the
best examples of the wit, style, grace, elegance and charm from the
golden age of Hollywood. If you've never seen it, I highly
recommend renting it. You won't be disappointed.
Stepping into the shoes of Mr. Grant in our production is yours
truly. The role of Tracy Lord is being played by Allison Eastwood
(Clint's daughter), and that of Mike Connor by Briant Wells. We
have a remarkable supporting cast and a fantastic director; we open at
the Court Theatre on La Cienega Avenue in LA on April 22nd, and are
scheduled to run through June 11th. Those of you in the area,
please come check it out. Promises to be a good time; and we'll
try to give the film a run for it's money!
I'll post all the ticket and box office info in the Upcoming Projects
area of my site soon.
All for now.
Best regards,
Hugh
